Privacy policy

Last updated 23 August 2026

The short version: everything you write in SORTD — your journal, habits, goals, tasks, events, ideas and notes — is stored on your own device. We never receive it, so we can't read it, lose it or sell it.

Who we are

SORTD is published by SORTD Studio Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number [COMPANY_NUMBER]), registered office [REGISTERED_OFFICE]. For anything in this policy, write to contact@sortd.studio.

For UK GDPR purposes, SORTD Studio Ltd is the data controller for the limited account information described below.

What stays on your device

The content you create in SORTD is written to your device's own local storage. That includes:

  • journal entries and moods
  • habits and the days you recorded them
  • goals, milestones and identity statements
  • tasks, events and day plans
  • ideas and brain-dump notes
  • focus sessions and app settings

None of this is transmitted to us or to anyone else. It is not backed up to our servers, because there are no servers holding it. If you delete the app, that data goes with it — so if it matters to you, use your device's own backup.

What we do hold

If you create an account, we store the email address and password you sign in with, so that you can sign back in. Passwords are stored hashed — we can't see yours.

That's the whole list. We use it for one purpose: letting you into your account. We don't use it to profile you, and we don't send marketing to it unless you have asked us to.

Payments. If you subscribe, the payment is handled by Apple through the App Store. We never see your card details. Apple tells us that a subscription exists and whether it's active — nothing more.

What we don't do

  • No analytics. We don't measure what you do inside the app.
  • No tracking. Nothing follows you around the internet, and there is no advertising identifier in the app.
  • No advertising. Not now, not later.
  • No profiling. We're not building a picture of you.
  • No selling or sharing. There's nothing to sell, and we wouldn't.

Who else is involved

We keep third parties to a minimum. The ones that exist are:

  • Apple — app distribution, and subscription billing if you subscribe.
  • Our email provider — handles mail sent to and from our @sortd.studio addresses, so if you email us, that message sits in a mailbox.
  • This website's host — serves these pages. Standard server logs may briefly record your IP address for security and reliability, as with any website.

We do not sell or share personal information with anyone for their own purposes.

How long we keep things

Account details are kept for as long as your account exists. Ask us to delete it and we'll remove it, normally within 30 days. Anything you wrote in the app was never ours to keep in the first place — deleting the app removes it from your device.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you can ask us to give you a copy of the personal data we hold about you, correct it, delete it, or restrict what we do with it. Since the only data we hold is your account email, most of these requests are quick. Email contact@sortd.studio and we'll deal with it within one month.

If you think we've handled your data badly, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk. We'd rather you told us first so we can fix it.

Children

SORTD isn't aimed at children and we don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has created an account, email us and we'll remove it.

Changes to this policy

If we change anything meaningful — particularly if SORTD ever gains cloud sync or AI features that would involve your content leaving your device — we'll update this page and change the date at the top. Anything of that sort would be opt-in, and we'd tell you clearly before it happened.
